On my last blog, I mentioned Seasonal reading. Fall is almost here and winter not too far behind. So, this is the time when I love to choose seasonal reads. I enjoy reading cozy books with themes related to Thanksgiving and Christmas. Once January rolls around, I like to read about warm beaches and beautiful seas. I’ll choose books set in Key West or the Caribbean. In the end of January, I may choose romance. As we approach the spring, I like to think about green trees returning in nature and may choose books set in a forest or perhaps, Montana. Summer brings me right back to beachreads until we reach fall reading again. Do you notice you have a particular cycle where certain books appeal to you more than others? Let me know.
WRITER’S ROOM #5 – Editing is important. You spend so much time writing a book, but you’ve only reached a portion of your goal. Now you need to EDIT, EDIT, EDIT. There are many different types of editing. You must start with the content, also known as developmental editing. This type of edit will look at your plot, setting, characters, pacing as well as other items that affect the readability of your book. Next, you can move to copy and line editing where you carefully need to check punctuation, grammar and go line by line to ensure your book is professional. The last step is proofreading! Hopefully, you’ve received a galley of your book. You must carefully comb through to find the mistakes. You’ve read your manuscript at least ten times by now. Your mom and friends have read it, too. But you should really work with a professional editor to have the best book possible.
READER’S CORNER – This week I’d like to introduce you to James McCrone. His new Political thriller, Emergency Powers, will launch on October 1, 2020.
The accidental president is no accident.
The investigation that was FBI Agent Imogen Trager’s undoing may be the key to stopping a brutal, false flag terrorist attack meant to tighten a puppet president’s grip on power. Imogen doesn’t know it yet, but she’s running out of time.
Emergency Powers has a ripped-from-the headlines urgency: a fractious FBI, an undermined Attorney General, corruption, murder, and powerful people using all manner of treachery to maintain their hold on power. But it’s more than headlines about things people may think they know. And it’s darker.
Emergency Powers launches October 1, with a (virtual) in-conversation appearance with the incomparable Dick Belsky, hosted by Shakespeare & Co. in Philadelphia and New York. He follows that appearance with a launch at Mystery Lovers Bookshop in Oakmont, PA on October 8. His blog tour, with Partners In Crime tours, continues throughout October and into November.
You can pre-order your copy of Emergency Powers through Shakespeare & Co. or Mystery Lovers Bookshop or your favorite vendor.
